Approval paths are the product

Autonomy is not a strategy. A tool that can spend money, change a claim note, email a counterparty, or dispatch a vendor needs a blast radius, a name, and a human who can stop it with a record.

Narrow task boundaries beat “an AI employee that works 24/7.” Deterministic steps where they exist. Retrieval that cites. Kill switches that actually kill. If your vendor cannot show the approval queue, they are selling a completion, not a system.

Evals sit next to the workflow. A score that lives in a slide three weeks later is not an eval. It is a memory. Production needs a fail state: what we will not ship, what we will rerun, what we will escalate.
